I know they are Schwarz Taxidermy in St Louis Missouri - fun and large. Check the beady eye on the beetle.

I didn't take a pic of the sticker on the back - it didn't give name of bird or date, just company and No. 1802 space 701222G. 25 x 38 inches.

One went for under asking of $500, and another - I can't tell if this means it actually sold? I couldn't get to the original or any results... Thanks!

Quite similar to spruce grouse but could be a close cousin

I'm lookin' for a grouse with hairy legs, apparently.

NOT rubber legs, like robot grouse below.

Try white-tailed ptarmigan in their summer clothes/plumage. At least some, in the pictures have the red eye shades.:joyful:

Thanks GG and LauraGarnet - I think Terry's looks closest, so far...

Maybe the shaggy legs are seasonal? Anatomically, I don't know what that's called - probably legs!

Ok, according to wiki, they do have feathered legs and even furry feet in the winter. (this is a general description of grouse(sp))

I would love that robot for my cat - she might actually get up and chase something, for once... more likely, run!

Pretty sure they are summer plumage willow ptarmigans.

I had no idea they made robot grouse, female ones, and the males will court them for the edification of researchers. You learn something new every day.
    Thank you, Scoutshouse and Wikipedia.....

They look like ptarmigans to me. I've only seen them in winter plumage in Iceland - they hung around the base - but pictures of the summer coat looks much like this.

Ptarmigan,_Rock_JanFrodeHaugseth.jpg See the red over the eye on the male? He's beginning to get his winter plumage.
