I bought what I believe to be a Chinese piece. I am trying to figure out if it's a replica, a real antique etc. I learned the writing means fu-gui from my friend in China. Any info would be greatly appreciated

    Hi Will,

If you click on Full Image after you upload your photos they will appear in the post. Sad to say, from what I see this is a brand new piece sold in home goods and decorators shops.

Yeah I liked the look so I got it from one of my honey holes for very cheap. I won't be to upset if it's not worth anything. But the construction of it is very good. It is all pegged, and I think I found two nails in the bottom to the side of the drawers that seem fairly old.

This is not a form that I am familiar with as coming from China. It is more similar to some rustic furniture coming out of Indonsesia. The hardware does appear to be Chinese and that may be camphor wood. Consequently, I would think it to be modern Chinese for the Western market.

Thanks for the input. Yeah I was told it was some where like Indonesia or Taiwan. Also that it was teak. But then I saw the Chinese lettering. I like the piece and there are some things on it that just scream to me that it's old, but I know some things can look old even if they're not. I'll have to take a closer look at some things when I get home.

So I was looking a little more last night and I found a tag but obviously I can't read it. The drawer has notches in it maybe for a scroll? Idk. On the inside I found you can still see and feel the saw mill marks as well. There is also a small sliding opening in the bottom of the chest that goes into the drawer. image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg
