Hi all! I was hoping that someone could help me identify this small antique leather container, carrier, vessel that I have. The item is quite small standing only 26cm high by 13cm across. It is very hard and solid and the metal banding with the four rings around it really has me stumped as to its use. Is it military? Possibly gun powder vessel? The four rings are obviously to suspend it in the air or to lock it down. As to it’s age I have to be honest and say I have no idea but for some reason I love it and find it a great curiosity. If anyone can help Id this piece as to exactly what it is and what it was used for I would be very grateful..... 21CA6648-0951-4925-8E41-736D962BF282.jpeg 9DF0F717-F702-4AAB-9744-6B1999B71B6A.jpeg E6DC6479-F198-4B00-B797-2D9F92B8DA6E.jpeg

Welcome to the Forum, Decka! :)
For other members about 10 inches high x 5 inches across.
Have you checked the inside for what it might have contained, ie does it smell of anything?

Well, @springfld.arsenal would have thoughts on whether it's military or not. So it's leather? Is that just the outside covering, or is it leather inside, too? Looks like it should have a lid but I'm not sure how it would stay on.

It’s appears to be leather on the inside as well

There is particular smell that I can put my finger on and there are no signs of powder or liquid residue inside. The bottom of the vessel is as solid as the rest leading me to believe that it wasn’t used to hold liquid.

I see a couple of holes in the metal bands. Do any of these go through into the container, or are they just holes in the bands? I am wondering if one of them could be a touch hole.

There just holes in the band they diffently do not go through into the vessel. Just a thing to add I had a couple of friends come over and I asked them to smell the vessel and they both said it smelt like when you strike a match and then put it out.

I found some similar by searching for "powder monkey bucket" or "artillery bucket"

Yes that was my first thought when I got it. An artillery bucket but obviously with a lot more age. But the search continues...
