Mystery pottery (Majolica?) piece

    This is a rather heavy piece, measuring about 5" x 6". The birds have a crackle-glaze on them and look very aged. The base has two impressed marks: a number 1 and a capital M. Is this German? English? And age? I am stumped.

    I hope I'm wrong but that blackened crazing with that smudgy painting makes me think this is modern Chinese "majolica style".

    Also the big hole on the bottom, makes it look like a plaster mold.

    Yes, that is similar. Is it really from the 70s? Gosh it looked so old to me.

    But I don't see any wear on the etsy pair's base...

    Yours looks like it needs to be washed.
    Also is the bottom of yours glazed?

    If this is a Chinese import, I rather doubt from the 1970s. More like the 1990s.

    The base and the paste are typicall for recent Chinese import. Another clue is the brown dirt that was artificially applied.
