    It is slightly different from the bear, I'll see if I can take a photo tomorrow.

    This is the bear, an amazing 3500 yrs old. At least I hope this is the real one, they have been fiddling around with copies. This one looks honey amber:

    It is that milky-cheesy smell, doesn't age well.;) I think galalith is possibly the most beautiful of old plastics, as long as you don't smell it.

    So not just me then - doesn't bother me as much as the acrid smell of celluloid...

    I'm glad I can't smell that.
    My sense of smell can be funny. There are things I don't smell, and then there are things I smell when they aren't there. Probably my funny brain playing tricks on me.

    They are all the same one, just different lighting. The one I posted is the second photo.
    And reading through the old thread this is the copy that is on display in Slupsk. The real one is egg yolk amber, which is opaque pale yellow.

    I never heard anyone here in Mass. use 3 syllables.

    I always assumed it was just bake-light, having only read it & seeing it mainly as stove knobs, so first time I heard someone say it as 3 syllables I thought I was being polite in not correcting her. However, over time, everyone I encounter who takes an interest in it has gone with 3. As AJ told us

    Know she will correct me if I am wrong about Baekeland also having 3 syllables.

    You are absolutely right, we pronounce Baekeland with 3 syllables.:) Bev has probably heard similar names or words while on holiday in Belgium.:)
    Bakeliet (Dutch spelling) is also pronounced with 3 syllables.

    @James Conrad

    Congratulations on winning your Beuro!!

    I like the piece also.

    Thanks! although i don't think "Beuro" is a word, at least that was consensus! It's a small german schrank ( unusual in usa, schranks/german or kast/dutch tend to be MASSIVE in size here), i like it too but it does have issues.

    This is one of my Baltic butterscotch amber Art Deco pieces, more of a very German transitional style. Most of my other pieces are more Art Deco-ish, with angular shapes etc.
