Strange rocking couch

    This piece of furniture has me stumped. It's a wooden frame that seats 3. It rocks on a spring mechanism. It doesn't feel that old to me, but I've never seen anything like this so I really wouldn't know! The webbing on the underside is synthetic so post 50's or reupholstered? I've pulled the existing cushions off to get the pics and I wanted to recover them. It was only when I started looking for ideas that I realized I can't find any indoor furniture that looks anything like this. We picked it up about 8 years ago at an old flea market place. There are no makers marks or tags.

    Looks like words or letters on the hinge. Can you make them out?

    To me it looks like a piece of furniture from the 1960s meant to be part of the Early American decor.
    Probably maple.
    I'm not the furniture expert. Wait for brad to show up.

    Well spotted, I'd only seen the numbers before (99) but on closer inspection it says SENG Chicago on the spring thing!

    They probably got the hinge near where it was made. It's a starting point.

    Have seen chairs with this mechanism but never a settle. I think 50s or later colonial revival and maple is a very good bet. With that little darker stain, it could just as well be birch. Webbing and decking does look like a replacement at some point.
