Longshot: Ambrotype ID

Hello Everyone!

Hope everyone made it through all of the storms!

I recently purchased a lot of ambrotypes & Dags

This one of them stuck out. The fellow looks very familiar to me.
Guessing the photo is C.1859 - 1861

I'm trying to figure out who he is but all I have is the photographer info.

I know it's a long shot, but possibly someone may recognize him!

Could it be Ulysses S Grant?

 

I thought that possibly could be it, but have not been able to find any photos at a similar age.

 

He does look a lot like Ulysses S. Grant, but after looking through images of him, I can see that the bottom of the ear lobes are differently shaped, than the man in your image.

 

He kinda even looks like a young Lee lol

 

I found this photo.....a little closer to the same age? But does it help???

 

C.1860 I believe

 

It is highly unlikely it is him, but you never know. I just feel like I recognize this fellows face in this ambrotype, but can't put a finger on it.

 

Perhaps someone else will post help.

 

He's not frowning like Grant.....but ???

 

Definitely not Grant, but maybe a relative. Not a bad looking guy either.

 

Considering the name on that copyright, that's probably not U.S. Grant either.

Just kidding.

OMG. Keya Morgan pops up. There was a huge, I mean HUGE brouhaha about him on Ebay a few years back. He photoshops himself into pictures with celebrities. His real thing is to "find" historic photos that no one else has and offer them for large amounts of money. Oh, my. We caught him out on a photo of young, black children in cotton fields that he claimed was original and rare and turned out to be a copy of half of a stereopticon card that was in a museum. One journalist picked up the story and it went viral for awhile until we all got letters from his lawyer telling us to cease and desist or be sued. Actually, I got an email from someone purporting to be a lawyer. The journalist and I were emailing back and forth and she freaked because they threatened to ruin her career. Just for entertainment purposes, look him up online. He also had a bit part as a teenager (VERY bit - he walked by on a sidewalk) in an Al Pacino movie and used it to claim mini-star status. He alleges he and Al are BFFs. I could go on.

 

Looks very much like him, but as previously stated, the ears are what you look at and they aren't quite the same. Very close, though.

I printed out the whole series of correspondence. Personally, I think the "lawyer" was probably himself faking us out. He also had a photo of the White House with a man wearing a top hat sitting against a wall that he claimed was a previously unknown photo of Lincoln. Why would he be sitting on the ground outside the White House? Anyway, the saga was kind of amazing.
