I've been known to buy the old Victorian silverplated ones for no good reason. One I picked up was tarnished and dented, but that just meant someone really cared about it. It ended up in a friend's office with hand-made ribbon roses in it, as a "picture" of the four babies he and his wife lost before they were born. (they raised 7 more)

The belt is worth more in scrap than I paid. Not that it's being scrapped....

@lloyd249 - The crown over anchor design on the inside of those is the logo for Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines. Seems odd.

great finds evelyb30 and a gift certificate to buy more:)
I picked up some Valentine cards, a few pins, a Rigi 900 by Lehmann (need to buy some D batteries to see if it works) and a child size sewing machine. Usually the ones I find are more ornate than this one.

I went to the local auction last night. It was mostly junk but even that was going high. I did manage to get a few buys near the end.

I picked up a beat up MCM vanity without mirror for $5.00. Vanities don't sell so I am sure this is why it went cheap. I plan on cutting it in two to make pedestals in to nightstands and paint them. This is the auction pic so not the best. The mirror on top didn't go with it.

I bought two boxes of lighting for $13.00. It appears to be a mix of old and newer. The two fixtures in the bag are brand new Restoration Hardware dual gas/electric reproduction sconces that retail for $350.00 each (crazy I know). They are in a weird brushed brass finish but I guess that is the new up-and-coming look for Kitchens and bath :yuck:.

Lastly, I picked up this Royal Bayreuth dish for $2.00. It has some paint touch up but is in good shape otherwise. I think it slipped through due to being filthy but it is possible that no one really knew what it was.

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

Brad... you (and some others here) should lead educational tours at flea markets and estate sales... guide people through... show them how you scan and evaluate. Kinda like "grand rounds", where physicians lead interns on hospital rounds. I saw that on tv!

Edit - Actually, I guess that's what this thread is...

It is as much about knowing what not to buy as it is about knowing what to buy. For example, I had my eye on this bookcase and felt it worth buying if I could get it for $20.00 or less. It had a a good sized chunk of wood out of the base and needed refinishing. I thought it would be a good paint project and easy re-sale due to the nice features. It sold for $90.00 !!!!! I doubt I could get that even if fixed up.

This was probably the most extreme example from last night but you have to be careful not to pay too much for things. There were quite a few things that I would have liked to have bought but they just went too high. Quite a bit went to dealers so they either have a different market or work on a different profit margin than I do.

I do kind of like it, my wife would never allow it in the house however. I note his guitar or uke has only three strings, and he is holding it left-handed, backwards. A Day-of-the-Dead Jimi Hendrix......

It's apparently American, too! Or so the seller said, but the date is European, so who knows.

Has to be Mexican. Would think the Mich is an abbreviation for Michoacan. What is in the very center?
