He does have a great face! And I'm so glad he's gone to someone who appreciates him

Also thanks for saying my service was good. I'm very new to this buying to sell, literally just started. So good to get some positive feedback and encouragement!

    Enjoy him!

    Matt

When I first saw these posts I thought they were going to ask me to make a donation to send these retiring canes to assisted living................

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

I have assisted living. My ol' man takes care of the lawns and cars. And house maintenance.
    Me? I have other duties.

Gila, the bird cane is beautiful! It's too hard for me to keep up with every thread here now, so just saw the update to this one. Are you displaying it, using it, painting a picture of it, or... ?

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

    Thanks, Fig!!!!!!!
I bought it for my ol' man, who looked at it online and said he didn't like it and wouldn't use it, and it turned out he meant it.
So it sits on our mantel, admiring my prized Edward Lear toucan!
I love it so much I need to name it. Ideas? cane.jpg

That toucan is fabulous, Gila! I love that kind of art, and knew that Edward Lear did those.

As for the name, nothing comes to mind off the top of my head, but I will come back to look at it again.

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

That print is my favorite possession. I was wheeling and dealing natural history prints on eBay at the time, and I did some profit-taking and combined it with an income tax refund, and bought that bird from the Oppenheimer folks. Amazingly, I found some references on the actual original painting, with pictures of notes in Lear's hand, so this really is a special thing. If the house is on fire, I'll grab my parrot and then this print on my way out!
My ol' man suggested naming the cane Frank (cuz of the ol' blue eyes) but I'm still mad that he won't use it, so I ignored that.

Oh, if you got it from the Oppenheimer gallery, that is great! I have been to their gallery in Chicago several times. I bought two smaller Audubon prints from them. Can't afford the larger ones! Walking through their gallery is like being in an art museum.

Sorry to take this thread away from the walking stick / cane theme!

komokwa The Truth is out there...!

    I'd name him Ican.....
    WHY ?
because I figure your motto would be something like...
    " Ican do anything Toucan ! "

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

MATT, I'M SO GONNA BEAT YOU UP!

Look what you got me into. First there was that beady-blue-eyed little duck cane you sold me. Then I recalled a walking-stick with a parrot on top (which an uncle had carved for me... it was stuck away in the attic, but I brought it out!). Then I actually purposefully (and not even drinking) searched for bird canes/sticks on eBay and bought one (a preciously chubby little sparrow perching). THEN I was at a local indoor benefit-sale for my ol' man's church today and saw a little abstract-bird-cane that I HAD to have.

So I now collect bird canes/sticks. I hope you're proud of yourself.

Okay, already... thank you. I do love them.

    Grrrrrr.

    Gila
