And you did note that NEWS OF THE WORLD was a UK newspaper?

Yes I did when I looked it up, however I could not find an archived copy of it, too bad, would have been interesting just to see. This has kind of made the path more cloudy as I now think the little facts I knew are actually wrong, for my family has resided in Canada for over 100 years, unless this is from another side of my family. I will have to clarify with my mother tomorrow.

    Family history is like that.
I doubt it all that strange though..., that a 1938 newspaper from the UK would have made it's way across the pond to Canada .....considering the time period.

Notice the gold over the edge.
I think it highly likely that 1938 is when they painted and reframed the embroidery.
That color would be consistant with that time period.

My feeling is that it is a late 1800s needlework, in the original frame. The frame was repainted and the needlework put back in.

    I would certainly think pre-Victorian.

Pre Victorian? As in pre 1837?

What features observable in the photos lead you to attribute this fairly early date to this work?

I know there are even 18th. cent. pieces very similar in execution. I would like to know how to distinguish authentic early pieces from later mid to late 19th. , even early 20th. cent. works without having them in hand.

BTW I hope you're right. This is an exciting piece if it does carry such a circa.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

I keep coming back to look at this thread, and hope that you find some more information. People here have been very helpful.

I agree. I was hoping for more on this one. The photos only hint at the potential.

Same with the baseball cartoon themed one but I don't suffer boars lightly.

Any furthers replies from me on that thread would have been quite in-apropos, especially for a mod. ;)
