image.jpeg image.jpeg hi. We also have a pair of large lovely vases. Both have the same picture. Peerless is stamped on the bottom but I am struggling to find anything similar to compare it to. Would anyone be able to shed any light on these? Thanks in advance!

Oh, dear, that's a shame. I wouldn't have suspected Chinese although the block letters on the bottom would have given me pause.

That's codswallop on that link. Cheapo Brit pots made between the two wars or a bit earlier.

I'm glad you said that, bear. It's amazing that this expert can say one thing, then someone like me uses him as a reference, then it gets perpetuated.

Janet, I've no clue why the expert would think they're either recent or Chinese. ;) For a start, the person who asked on that link said it was shipped over from Britain in 1973 - the Chinese were certainly not making the mass market "copies" that are made now, they were too busy dealing with Mao's Cultural Revolution. China was a very different country then. And then, you look at the rim, the transfer style and a whole lot more.....

There's a lot of pots like these out there: they were made to allow those who weren't upper class to emulate their betters, for want of a better word! They often have something like PEERLESS or some other term in Big Letters. The fact that they were cheap to buy doesn't mean they aren't pretty, either, Jenny. Enjoy!
