I was hoping this forum would be able to help me identify a cabinet (photos attached).

It was purchased in the 1940/50's by my parents in the NY area. My mom said it had the radio in it but I'm not sure if it was built for that purpose or that's just what she stored in it. Growing up we called it the 'booze box' for, well, obvious reasons. ;) There are no markings on it - inside or out. The type of wood is unknown. It is 50"h x 27" w x 16" d. I have done searches with variations of 'radio cabinet' and do not come up with anything like it.

I would like to find a similar cabinet. What is it called? Any idea where I could find similar one? IMG_2614.JPG IMG_2612.JPG

    TIA!

Sadly no, not in this lifetime but possibly in a past one?

I applaud your taste in liquor, thumbs up on the Jameson's.;) Furniture is not really my thing but there are some on the board that are pretty good at it. Are the decorative areas on the panels on the front wood or are they some sort of composite/plastic etc.

Well, thank you. We are proud of our Irish heritage. ;) The detail on the doors are all wood. There is also wood behind the checker board.

I'm not the furniture expert, Brad is.
    My opinion:
1920s English - some call it Gothic, some Revival.
Probably meant as a hallway piece, but the size allows it to be used anywhere.
Wood is probably either oak or walnut. Can't tell from the pictures.

Well, I don't know what a blind door cabinet is, I believe it is Jacobean style... Really like the perspective carving on the doors! nice.

I've never heard of a blind door cabinet either but that is really close and very pretty. Thanks!

Could very well be a radio cabinet. Would probably need to see the back to be sure. Otherwise, would be a dining room piece based on one much as the one scoutshouse posted. I think circa 1930.

If it's a radio cabinet - and try searching on wireless cabinet or cupboard! - I'm a tad surprised at that centre shelf, unless it was added.

I'd agree Britsh and between the wars. The style is a bit muddled, but Jacobean is closest. The legs are 18th C Dutch in style. There were a couple of companies made these: Old Charm springs to mind, and there's another I've forgotten the name of.

The shelf made me think it was not originally a radio cabinet. I'm not sure if it was added or not. I'll talk to my mom this weekend and see what she remembers. Thanks!

What about the back would tell you for sure? I can have my brother move it out & look at it.

A radio or wireless cabinet ought to have holes for the cables.

Unless the back has been replaced. Also, there will usually be some signs of a radio being installed on the bottom shelf inside as well (assuming no refinishing or modification)
