Has anyone ever seen cups like these? Looking for approximate date and anything about the maker. Thank you.

This mark was used by Geo. Borgfeldt & Co. of New York. Geo. Borgfeldt & Co was an importer in business from 1881- circa 1976 according to Kovel. I'd date your pieces to the first quarter of the 20th century but that's mostly a guess based on the decoration. Without an additional manufacturer's mark it's impossible to tell who actually made them.

    Welcome, Puffy (and feline friend!)

What is the full word in the third picture? Does it appear on both Mama and Papa cups - or on a third one?

I assumed the word was "Present". I've seen cups with that logo before.

It says "Present"....go figure??? The Mama and Papa cups only say Mama and Papa. The other one with present on it is very weird...

I think it was given as a present to someone special but I'm guessing.

Thank you for supplying that info. I'm looking Borgfeldt up now. I'm just trying to figure out if my family brought these dishes over with them from Germany when they arrived in the 1880s or did they buy them years later once in the US...

I would guess after they arrived in the US. The mark was made specifically for export. If the cups and saucers came over directly over from Germany with your family the pieces would most likely have been unmarked. These types of cups and saucers were produced for export and not for home use in Germany.

I found a lot of cups marked "present," during my mama/papa searches....I have no idea why there are so many "present" mugs....

The present mug and cups were from the same period as the "Love The Giver" mugs and cups that were so popular in the late 1800s and early 1900s. These were so popular they expanded the line to include The Good Boy, The Good Girl, Best Friends. There were others but I'm having a senior moment. I researched these several years ago when I found a couple of Love The Giver mugs.

Welcome to you and the cat. I thought he was a dog! Then he was referred to as a cat, and I blew him up to see.

I think I'd keep on that one's good side!

Actually, he was a stray that just showed up to our house one day but wasn't too friendly so I gave him the name Grumpy...lol
