They were actually fairly reasonably priced, paid under 40$ for the pair.

Yeah, the person selling them thought they were advertising farm stuff. Which I have no idea how they thought that. lol To be honest, I didn't know they were baseball related till I got Home. I just thought they were cool and was like, ok fair deal. I'll take them. Kept poking around to other dealers/ vendors.

Got home and almost dumped in my pants when I saw they were Baseball lol

good luck wouldn't send anything to Heritage waste of the owner time who owns this 2 drawings unless the owner has a large collection of rare photos to be auctioned offer worth $1000s of dollars. not rare at all and are just a photo taken of the drawings and mounted onto a mount. these are not the original drawings and are photos of the drawings and these come up for sale often.

what score? they are neat and cool but these are not photos of baseball players, these are common cartoon drawing and are photos of the original drawings done by who knows who? these where not made by Cristo Buffalo he didnt make any series mounted on cardboard mounts. most likey these where made after the fact around 1890s not 1877 by an unknown photographer who decided to take a photo of the cartoon drawing then mount them on board backings. these come up for sale often and you would need to find a Buffalo New York baseball collector in which is far and few, only know of several advance baseball collectors that would pay maybe on a good day $100 ea. these are cool but far from rare

its not uncommon nor hard to remove a photo off a old mount and add a fake photo back onto surface. just soak mount in warm water and wait, the photo will come off the surface, dry the mount, then use acid free archival glue and a wooden rolling pin find something in a victorian scrapbook just like these photo drawings and to each one back onto the mount, now you all have a old mount collectible

the drawings both have uneven cut edges and not centered on mount. when was the last time you seen this when it comes to cabinet card photography? someone added them onto the mount in a hurry and was sloppy. any respected
photographer or Cristo Buffalo would have not done this type of mounting that is sloppy looking. something seem strange about these and would agree most likey taken from a victorian scrapbook and mounted by someone in the 1890

If not rare, and often available for sale can you present similar examples please?

nope have no examples to share due to i dont collect cartoon drawings of baseball related subjects, i collect 19th century baseball cards and original photos, however i have seem these turn up several times a year in past live auctions such as liveauctioneers and other auction sites. they dont sell for much last one i saw sold for $100 plus the 20% buyers fee just last year. if i remember right that one had a new york photographer stamp along bottom edge that dates it 1892 and didnt have uneven cut edges and was centered on the mount unlike these examples. also the paper foxing match the foxing on the mount and didnt have any of the edges up lifting off the mount. without seeing this in person it could of been a period photo copy removed from a victorian scrapbook and mount onto this plain mount which would be why there is no photographer stamp. Christo Von Buffalo was credited as being a cartoonist and was not a photographer.

its only rare if others want to believe its rare due to this type of item is a speciality item in which you have to find the right person who collects Buffalo team baseball stuff and the one who would pay the most would be a advance collector. i only know of 2 advance collectors that would pay top dollar and both are at the age and are down sizing their collection.

this item wasnt created in 1877 time period this photo was created after the fact, this is not an original piece of artwork / drawing, its a photo taken of the drawing and mounted onto a 1892 mount.

dont take it wrong by what i am saying, it is interesting and a neat baseball drawing but its not the original 1877 drawing artwork nor created when the games listed in drawing where played, it considered what is known as a period copy taken by a photographer and created a photo copy then mounted it onto a 1892 mount.

I'd be very surprised to find out the value of these photographs is anywhere near what the value of the actual hand-drawn cartoons would be. It makes me think of a couple of 20th century things I have.

The first is a set of photostats my mother had made of illustrations in very rare and valuable antiquarian books, probably in the '50s or '60s.

The second is photocopies of a hand-drawn cartoon featuring many famous mid-20th century cartoonists, and signed by many of them.

In both cases, the copies might be of interest to a small number of people. But they aren't likely to sell for more than a very modest amount even though the originals would be worth significant sums.

can you provide any info to support that these are "rare" as you indicated to the owner?
