    Oh yes....hand carved and painted.
    I believe he was known for his duck decoys , but he loved to do birds of prey.

    While I think the photo's are pretty good , if I hadn't got it directly from the artist, & only saw these photo's , I could be forgiven for wondering if it's not a Chinese plastic mold !! :wacky:

    But it's not...

    Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

    Thank you, Professor, and everybody. Just beautiful. I saw her in the background of Komo's Christmas tree photos and HAD TO SEE MORE. Everything's absolutely perfect about this bird. I think feathers are among the most beautiful (and difficult to paint or sculpt) textures in the world. This will be my screensaver!

    I *DO* love birds! :chicken::penguin::pigeon:

    Bev aka thelmasstuff Colored pencil artist extraordinaire ;)

    The Cape Cod Museum of Natural History used to have a bird carvers show every year. Those things are amazing in photos, but you have to see them in person. You expect them to fly away.

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

    OOOOOOH, I bet!
    I love this girl above. I also appreciate that the artist chosen the more subtly-colored female to show off his amazing ability. The American Kestrel (commonly called the Sparrowhawk) is the only kestrel in North America, I believe. The male has a beautiful slate blue "jacket". If you see a pigeon-size raptor sitting in a tree or on any high perch along the highway... it's probably this bird. In early morning or late evening, the sun really catches their burnished, almost coppery glow. I love you, little kestrel.
    Komo, can I name it?

    Edit - *May* I?
