Bronzey Brass Bowl from... India?

Had never seen another like this. I’m a sucker for boxes and bowls so I picked it up fo $8ish at an estate sale. Gentlemen in the lotus position looks like he’s wearing a beret which struck me as funny. Any idea what hat he’s actually wearing? The dog or wolf was something I hadn’t seen in Asian design much outside of Foo Dogs. The metal has more of a bronze like hue but might just be brass. Seems to have some age on it. No marking anywhere that I recall. Looks like it came from India or somewhere close to me. Does anyone know one way or the other? Any input appreciated. Personally I love it and will be keeping it just wondering.

I think you’re right. Now that you mention it I did a hunt a while ago and I think that was what I came up for most similar looking work. I never found the same hat though.

India, imo, I have a similar one from India with just animals. In Indian iconography the seated guy would be Shiva, and this looks like an Indian folk representation of Shiva to me.
Cambodia generally prefers thinner, finely worked repoussé. But let's ask our resident French Indochina expert @kyratango .

Great, any idea on age? Is yours brass or bronze? I showed you mine, if it’s handy let’s see yours!

 

My guess is late 19th century, a local brass like alloy, and I will see if I can make a photo. It is one of those dark, dreary days here, so the light is not good.

 

Here is mine. It has two lions, an elephant and a deer, no Shiva. it doesn't have a real dimple in the base, as yours has, just a slight indentation. Otherwise the style is the same, but a different craftsperson.
