I don't :). I found it interesting but did not buy it. Was not sure if it was worth the $15. And it looks too scary :)

Its hard to tell, but is that bird on top killing a snake ? It made me think Mexican. Its a very interesting pot actually,Id have bought it. Looks like a game pie dish or something.

It looks like what the three witches used to contain the contents of that cauldron boiled and cauldron bubbled! Google the speech -- I swear that was the impetus for that tureen!

I think it is a bird killing one (or two) tangled up fat, formerly sassy, worm(s). EDIT: Obviously I have learned I was mistaken.:shame:

Johnnycb09, I love your thought that it may be a "game pie dish." It most certainly would be a great serving dish for a hunting/fishing lodge.;)

I tried googling this by a description of the piece (...including bird and snake...) and eventually came up with a reference to the Mexican national symbol - an eagle with snake in it's mouth/beak. Maybe it does originate from Mexico?

It has birds' feathers and claws on the side too; Mexico is probably a good bet, or at least a Mexican influence.

The bird on top doesn't look much like an eagle to me. And the pictures don't give us a good look at the bird's body.

The one on the bottom looks more like a chicken than an eagle. Chickens do make good bug control. Maybe it's an Early Bird?

    :D

Maybe it was a case of artistic license, or some kind of difficulty in creating an exact copy, but the Mexican eagle and snake image shows the eagle standing with wings up and the snake held by both beak and talons.

Oh wow ! I love it ! Definitely referencing the early bird/worm thing ! Great pics,by the way. I don't get as much a Mexican feel as before.Actually the glaze does look a little Chinese maybe? Asian artists do sign in English, just a thought. I keep looking at it over and over, that thing is awesome ! :)

Agreed, Komo. And that side view of the lid (second pic in Post #14) seems to show tail feathers that look way more like peacock feathers than any other bird. At least to me.

Boy, the bird on the lid with the snake has a beak and a half! At first thought a crane/heron with that long narrow beak. Then thought peacock or phoenix because of the crest/comb or whatever on the head, but it doesn't seem to have long enough tail feathers for either. The bowl itself looks more like a perturbed chicken. The head on one end certainly has the beak, etc...of a chicken; albeit, a mad chicken. I guess I would be too if that bowl was soon to be my coffin!

Could the bird on the top be a guinea hen ? I know they used to believe theyd keep a yard snake free, and anyone who's ever dealt with one can tell you they can be mean !
