Try to get some side light on the stamp and retake the pics. Some more contrast may help, too:

flour on it; softly blow away the surplus and take another pic.

 

Have you tried a pencil rubbing of the mark?

It's a vintage early 19?? broad axe or Hatchet head...... made by the gazillions...

but the guy liked it enuf to put his HH on it !!

Too bad some a....ole took a hammer to it, nice carpenter's side axe. Built a few masts with these.

 

This is all I could do with it.....not sure all of the letters seem English, but I could be wrong also: Possibility it could say MONTREAL......

The more I look at it the more I'm sure it says MONTREAL!!!!
