I love that jackpot Santa and the jeweled Christmas tree! The Statue of Liberty lamp is way cool. I have to post a pic of what my husband got me for Christmas soon..... today going out to buy calendars for the family 50% off at Books a Million.

 

...I used to have 3 to 5 calendars up in different rooms.
There used to be kiosks that would sell only calendars, open in Dec and closed by Jan.....but around here they're almost impossible to find ......good ones that is.

 

I'm not much of a toy collector. I just recently started buying toys for my future grand kids, not anytime soon though. Today, I bought a slew of Barbie dolls in boxes, accessories etc. The seller said all the loose barbies were only .50. I was shocked to find this 1960 Barbie and Ken Friend Allan doll. I know it's not bank but pretty cool to snatch it for pennies.

To me that group look as if they are watching a witch burning and thoroughly enjoying it. Of course, it could be just the lighting and soft focus but if that was the effect intended in the photo, it's a masterpiece.

Barbie dolls have a special evil magic about them that eats children's souls and spits them out as 'consumers'.

I've been buying and selling a lot of Barbie and friends lately. The male dolls are hard to move. But Barbies, clothing, and accessories have been very profitable.

 

Can't really date Barbies by their butt marks - the 'Allan' doll was only made from 1964-66 (1960 is when the 'Ken' design was registered, same body used for Allan), he was reintroduced as 'Alan' in the early 90s...

I have a giant tub full of Barbies, Ken and Skipper Dolls. How can you tell what year they were made?

 

I instantly got "Children of the Corn" feeling when I seen the picture.

 

I seen that the accessories bring a better profit than the doll itself. I got quite a few accessories with everything, some look old but not sure when they came out. My guess is that they may be early to mid 80s. I also received a slew of outfits and shoes that all have matches. Is there a site that has info about all the clothes?

 

One doll I picked up for about $1 was the 1991 Barbie Roller Blade, never been open. I picked up about 3 Special Holiday Barbies, never opened for about $1. They date to the mid 1990s.

 

Wish I could help. I'm new at the Barbies. Personally, I try to stick with the ones in boxes, obvious production year. Lose ones, I'll buy but try to use good judgement on the style of the doll, face, hair, etc and clothes. I know that's not a defenitive answer to a year but a start. A solid lead would be awesome to know on how to track down the years on them.

 

Here is a good reference for Barbie dolls, old and new ones. I would start with checking out the butt marks, they changed over time and should help to narrow down the date they were made. I don't think I've ever had a male doll, so I don't know their marks.

Unfortunately, most of the reference info is for 50's through early 70's. Finding info on 80's and later Barbies isn't as easy. I stick to the older ones up to the mod era myself.
