Hi everyone, found this piece of glass at a sale and was wondering if anybody knows how old this could be. It is a very heavy piece of glass that is clear one way and with a blue tint another. It has dots on the bottom all the way around the base and one in the center like some kind of injection, I guess to make the bubbles?? It is about 7 inch across the top. A lot of fine scratches on base and a small chip inside bowl. Any ideas would be great. TIA and MERRY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!! IMG_1299.JPG IMG_1300.JPG IMG_1302.JPG IMG_1298.JPG

Thought someone would reply. Since they didn't I will give my 2 cents worth.

    Mid century or later.
Most likely European. Many would point to Italy, but Germany is another area. The perfect round polished bottom, in my opinion, rules out new from China

When the bubbles are perfectly spaced it is called controlled bubble. Not sure what they call this bubble formation.

Colored glass sells better than crystal.

    Sorry not much help.
Maybe someone else will give an opinion.

Thanks clutterecloset49 for your reply, yeah I don't think china either, it's just way to heavy for them. This is very thick glass. I'm going to buy me a scale because I think weight tells me it's something. I have seen the controlled bubble things but I haven't seen any with the marks like this on the bottom. And of course there's no markers mark. HAPPY HOLIDAYS

I agree with cluttered, I think probably Mid Century or later, I don't think China either. It seems like a lot of Italian glass is not signed, often pieces have a foil label (Murano label, etc.) that gets removed or falls off over the years.

It looks like a heavy nice piece, I would caution you that a "chip on the inside" will really take a hit on value for something like this.

    Seasons greetings, as well.

If listing I would call it Murano without hesitation.

Even tiny chips kill this type glass.

    Roger,

I think what you are seeing on the bottom is bubbles that were in the glass. The bottom was ground down exposing part of the bubble (if that makes sense)

YES desperatefun that does make sense!! I bet that is what it is, it really had me puzzled. Thanks for all the answers. I was thinking Murano too. I bought to keep so no worry about the chip, you can't see it just feel it.

Thanks fenton I like it too. I bought to keep not to sell so the tiny chip doesn't bother me.

It was late last night and I said Germany when I should have said Sweden. I couldn't think of the company name, only that the last part was "berg". This morning I remembered Pukeberg.

Many of these companies did the bubble glass

Because of the shape I'm more inclined to the Swedish glass, not the Italian.

"Puke...berg"? No wonder they didn't sign it! :joyful:

(Pretty piece, Sweden makes beautiful glass.)

Your bubbles are 'controlled.' They are in nice swirled rows.

    Try Schott Zweisel.

Hi ownedbybear I'm really not seeing why you think Schott Zwiesel. Can you show me a example. Thanks

Oh, forget that. I think I was half asleep, and I saw the aventurine as sea foam! Brain fart.

Italian. Bullicante and aventurine, might be Barovier Toso or someone like that. The base, as others have said, is simply popped bubbles where it's been smoothed and polished.
