    I Just picked up 2 new Mystery Weapons. The 1st is a heavy sword. (about 3 lbs) 30 inches long, it appears to have been rather sharp at one time. Handle appears to be Brass. The 2nd is a dagger, 16 1/2 inches long. Brass handle, leather and brass sheath.

    offhand......I'd say a us or French artillery short sword..... but the handle looks fantasy..... and I don't see any military marks...

    @the blacksmith
    @Marote

    the dagger , looks fantasy as well....

    even odd fellows or Knights of... had markings on them..

    so, fantasy...masonic...??
    I might look towards Spain....

    Ya, these have me confused? They both look to have been around for quite some time and the blades are quite pitted up. The dagger sheath is quite old also. I was trying to find a photo with the 2 loops on the top of a sheath with no luck. The face on the sword also is quite odd. tip3.jpg

    It looks like it is a theatrical piece.
    Companies like Bongartz in Germany made similar weapons in very large numbers for use in the theatre from the mid nineteenth century until the eary nineteen sixties
    The piece (blade and scabbard anyway) looks typically German.
    The hilt is far too slender to be a military piece, and the quality far off what one would ecpect for a regulation military weapon.

    I've seen Knights of Columbus swords and a bunch of Odd Fellows swords when I did a valuation for them and they are much better quality and both groups always have their own symbols on them.

    Maybe he copied it from another listing without checking? In the first post above he said it appeared to be brass. Which it is.

    I just found a Mideastern cup for $4 and googled my brains-off ! Most of the results I found were just a garble of 'keywords'. Marketing titles like-'Mideastern/Arabic/Indian/Hindu/Islamic Bronze Brass Engraved Cast Cup Beaker Water/Lassi Container..............'
    Pseudo-scholarship and fantasy guesswork spreads like a pandemic in the online 'antique' market.
    I think a lot of lazy sellers just cut & paste from other lazy sellers-it's all about cash flow & pumping out merchandise.

    wall 1.jpg Must be nice to be perfect? Not a lazy seller just sometimes I make mistakes. Yes it is Brass, as for "cash flow & pumping out merchandise" I do keep lots of stuff, but also do sell from time to time. (not enough wall space)

    That’s a cool collection.The ‘handle story’ was obviously just a honest mistake. None of us are perfect anyway! Komo just asked a honest question and Bosko69 just made general comment. Surely no offence meant over something so minor.

    Rick-We all make mistakes,cause we're all just Mortals, no big amigo. I can't tell you how many times I've been 'corrected' on this Site, most here would tune out after 2 or 3 pages.
    Do I sometimes feel silly-yes,but I learn.Again nice collection,relax-no harm no foul.
