interesting JPN lusterware piece from early 20th cent.

this is from an auction a few months ago. The best guess it is from Mogi Momonoi a company from Nagoya. But not everyone agreed. The mark is similar to Mogi marks I found but not exact kind of interesting.

"This gorgeous covered jar has a red "Hand Painted, Made in Japan" circle mark with three leaves at the center.According to the Modern Japanese Pottery Marks blogspot, the factory that used this mark was located in Japan's Gifu Prefecture near Nagoya and is believed to have produced goods during World War 2. Beyond that, little appears to be known."

 

oh these are a great find, thanks Marote. As I recall the discussion back then I think someone said Momonoi was an importer located in NYC. I will try to see if I have link to the similar marks I did find.

"The mark looks like the Paulownia of the Toyotomi Family Crest, but is a copy.

According a Japanese website, this mark was designated as being from the Gifu Prefecture.

According an US website, lusterware with this mark was given to someone's grandparents as a wedding present in the 1920's, which must be after 1921 because of the "Made in Japan".

Many info about small pottery studio's and workshops was lost in WW2, so probably this happened also with this pottery"
