This scene being so specific looking has me thinking this is a real view of somewhere rather than a fantasy scene. Looks like an American sterling mark, possibly Towle though it’s worn. The engraving and filigree work may have been done elsewhere I guess. Came with a Montreal spoon but I don’t know if they began life on the same trip. It’s probably a long shot but does anyone recognize the view? 371046F4-487F-426C-879E-30DE2CBAA7DE.jpeg 7AEA67FC-61DA-4FBF-B052-57D6BBA1635B.jpeg 85B087CB-FB85-4551-96A5-6D6D72709549.jpeg

    Looks like a mining location.
Odd that the name is not on it.
    Miner made?

Ah, that’s interesting! I was wondering if that was tracks swooping down. You’ve got a good point about the locations name being absent. If it was made for sale the name would be there you’d think. If it was made by someone familiar with the location or for someone familiar with the location it wouldn’t be necessary necessarily. Thanks

Dirty coal or clean coal? :p

I guess coal was mined pretty widely which would make it hard to pin down.

Strange might mean valuable, relatively speaking. The spoon market likes this I believe.

Could be a silver mine. Maybe the spoon was made from the silver that came from that particular mine and someone engraved, or had it engraved with the mine site landscape.

My first impression was that it was a view of a concentration camp. Probably just my dark thoughts of late.......

Lots of different subjects on souvenir spoons, my first, acquired 45+ years ago, has a very nice acid-etched view of Joliet Penitentiary. The engraver had little skill, would guess an amateur, my first thought was a silver mine, both silver and gold mining was a popular subject, coal mining a possibility, or perhaps even a sawmill - without a location, would be difficult to pin it down.

You don't show the maker's mark and the handle is fuzzy for these old eyes, but if it's an A.F. Towle & Son mark and the handle is inset with filigree work, then it would be a Dirksen piece, A.F. Towle was a common source of their blanks...

I was thinking it had to be a mine too. Those are ore cart tracks unless someone was a really bad artist. Another vote for why the location isn't identified: I agree that it was made for someone local, for whom the name wasn't needed.
