Gamla Uppsala" (historic Uppsala) in Sweden with its 13th century church and a 12th cent bishop's chair. To me it resembles a Moroccan piece, most likely because if the spindles. NOTE-I don't own this piece.
Ditto Debora-It also looks like it's perhaps been heavily restored (800 yr old piece ?) Also in the same church is this 12th cent tree trunk alms chest (partial limb still attached-like a Hobbit piece !).
Beautiful chair, bosko. That is typical of Northern European chairs of the period. The amazing thing is that this chair is complete. Sweden and Norway still have a a surprising number of these chairs, maybe because they didn't see as much war as the Low Countries and the UK did. This is a similar model, a bit smaller and some panels are missing, King Stephen's Chair in Hereford Cathedral, England:
The similarities are evident. One of the few items we frequently see (or used to) on the West Coast are really old Scandinavian Blanket/Wedding Chests-some looked to be 18th to early 19th Cent., which is considered quite old here on the West Coast. Sweden & Norway would be a fun places to furniture shop !
HELP !!! I'm trying really hard right now to save my pennies-global politics & the ecosystem seem to be having a tiny hiccup at the moment.
Scandinavia and Denmark have always been ridiculously expensive. They have a high income, but ours isn't as high, so it is too expensive for us.
Here's another even older chair-the bronze folding throne of Dagobert I, 7th CE. Dagobert died in 639 CE and was a king of the Franks, last of the Merovingians. This was the Anglo Saxon period in the UK. In The DaVinci Code The Merovingians were supposedly the inheritors of the bloodline of Christ-a totally fictional construct. Interestingly, the arms of the chair seem to portray Leopards. PS-King Dagobert is in no way related to Dogbert or Dilbert.
So AJ- Are You Dutch,Frankish,Indonesian ? I guess it's like me being an American/Yugoslavian/Irish ?
The 'real' Dutch (if there is such a thing) are either Frankish, Frisian, Saxon or Celtic, or a mix of these. It is roughly like this: The Frisians live in the north and west. The Franks live in the south and part of Holland (west coast). The Saxons live in the east. Most Celts intermarried with the southern Franks, especially in Brabant. There are remnants of Celtic culture and place names in Brabant, which is where I live. My Dutch ancestors were Frankish/Celtic and Frisian, south and north. My German ancestors were Frankish/Celtic, my French ancestors Frankish and Viking (Normandy). So quite a lot of Frankish. I am also part Indonesian, part Jewish and a few other Asian lines thrown in for good measure.
You got the full DNA Globalist Perspective ! Since we all roughly started in the same place about a million years ago-when we make War,we're basically killing ourselves. Same ancient Dance-kill for a while, then an agreement, kill for a while,etc.......Boy-this sheit gets old.
