Yes, dichroic glass I believe. Usually see it just with a bale not enclosed like this.

Walked into my ReStore, where the "expert" marks the decorative things and sometimes thinks they're too valuable to sell in that store. But she ain't so swift as she thinks she is sometimes. I paid $3 for a box of ten or so metal figures she probably thought were Taiwanese. Nope - Barclay skiiers, sledders, and skaters. The paint is nearly mint. Oops! I need some pictures but There were some here:

She wanted full retail; that would have me backing away too. Quickly.

from that little antique mall , as an afterthought , cuz it wasn't what I was there for.
it's beat up...but the bones are still there..... and I would have left it if not for the carved abalone disc.
at 1st I thought it was turtle....but now I see horn.
at $15.... it's still an old sweet piece of history.....

    3 x 1 3/4 x 3/4 inch

where it's from originally...??? age..? is it big enuf to be a coin purse ?

komokwa The Truth is out there...!

I saw this 3 weeks ago.... and couldn't get it out of my mind.
A basket, box , purse.... all in one.
I am well versed on the northern Cree & Algonquin styles of birchbark containers.... but this one has the better of me.
Right off , the wood base is not what I expected .... and the old iron nails.... coupled with a small purse shape , I find to be quite out of the ordinary.
I paid up for it....... even with 20% off for cash.... because while it may be vintage bordering on antique .... it's in near mint condition..... & I had to have it !!!

& the design is classic , traditional, and well laid out ..!

    It's only 11 1/4 x 5 1/2 x 4 inches , and a little darker than my well lit photos present.

It may turn out to be Athabaskan..... https://www.invaluable.com/auction-lot/athabascan-indian-made-birch-bark-basket-47-c-8244db28ba ... which I'm less familiar with..... but still, the base...side closure with that added birch slab.... is unusual at best...

This was last month's find and restoration. No stripping, just clean, buff and touch-up. The mechanical works were disassembled, cleaned, newly greased, and the soundbox was rebuilt. Now it looks and preforms as it should.

These are my last finds of 2024. Just got around to photographing. Nice snowy day here so a good time to stay home and work.

I never find clocks but found 3 earlier in the month and now this. No glass, hands, or back but how could I say no for a $6.00 thrift store find? Does have a pendulum but not sure this one can be fixed easily.

I found this in a local antique mall and sold as silverplate. They were having a 20% off holiday sale so this only cost me $7.50. The cap on the little crystal pot bears a French Minerva head so definitely not silverplate. Missing a piece but who cares at this price. I am going to post this to the silver forum with a question or two.

Lastly, this electrified oil lamp has been completely refurbished. Maybe not what I would have done to it but glad I don't have to do anything. Only $7.00 at the thrift store. The second picture shows it with an antique shade I have and plan to use on it. Do you think this an appropriate choice? I don't have a globe, which might be a better choice. Haven't found the right sized chimney yet.

It's definitely looking for a chimney, but the shade looks nice.

the metal work on the oil pot is just super....... that shade is too clumsy and large , and draws attention away from the lamp.

    imo..

Nice! Too bad about those other two glasses though. Around here at the Ill Will all I"d find would be the two you left behind.

Found this in a box of "junk" in an indoor market today. After some research I have discovered that is is a Kashmiri kangri. I don't know if it is silver - it is filthy and needs a good clean. The metal is very thin and has a few dents & dings. I wonder if it was the sugar basin part of a teaset
rather than a functional kangri? I found some beautiful silver kangri teasets online but of far better quality than mine!
