Is it framed? Would/could you post a photograph of the work from front and back including the frame? The landscape looks more like Capri than France.

I have good news, and I have bad news for you.
    The bad news:
I can't help you with the signature.
    The good news:
    it's sunny today :D

Why don't you open it up and see if there's any information inside?

Ditto. Something Lourens (Lawrence) Alma Tadema would use in his paintings.

And we need more pics :)
In the very first pic of this post, using the Windows magnifier, to me the last letters of the name look like 'rst', but in the 2nd pic that isn't visible. It might make it clearer if you take a close-up of the signature, but not as close as the one you've already posted.

I think the sketch shows a loom.

Yes, and she's barefoot. Isn't that interesting?

Maybe someone can identify the loom the woman is working on and that will give you the location. That balcony could be any Mediterranean island because it looks like places we visited in Sicily.

The drawing is made on the backside off the balcony painting so a sketch and then turned the paper to make the painting ? Or a idea about a drawing made later on the balcony scene to make it even more difficult :)
