Featured Another Seeking advice... this time on a brooch/pendant

  1. brooch ag 7.jpg brooch ag6.jpg brooch ag5.jpg brooch ag4.jpg brooch ag3.jpg brooch ag 2.jpg Brooch ag1.jpg I bought a brooch/pendant a few years back, because I was intrigue by the design and variety of objects used to make.
My personal thoughts are definitely vintage, possibly antique from the suffragette period as it incorporates the known colours of purple, green and white, such as amethyst, peridot, pearls and other similar similar. The flowers look like green glass (Green obsidian?).
It is articulated at the bottom piece. Can be worn as a brooch or a pendant with the bail at the back.
I don't know if the gems are real, but I think they could be. The Pearls also look real.
It is engraved/stamped on the rear with ' 925' 'ag' + 2 letters more that I can't read properly

    Weighs approx.27g or 1oz,
    Stands approx. (L) 8cm (3in) x (W) 5cm (2in)

thanking you in advance for any insights or opinions.

Italian post war gold washed silver, flowers look like carved quartz. Nice quality.

Agree. Looks 1960s-70s to me. Beautiful pendant/brooch.

    First off, great piece!

It wouldn't be suffragette just based on design which is 1960s or later, unless the designer was doing it as a homage or something.

At 1oz for a 3 inch brooch, those large flowers could be glass (or quartz as suggested) or carved lucite, a bit hard to tell from the photo, but they do seem to have quality. You can hold the edge of one of the flowers to your cheek and see if the flowers are cold feeling (meaning glass or quartz) best to compare with another plastic/glass piece for temperatures.

Your photos are fantastic for detail, but if I can be super picky, good to show one or two without a flash (maybe natural light) to show colors best.

I would be a little surprised if these were real gems, but I'd love to be wrong. One test is to go into a jeweler and ask if the clear stones are diamonds. Most jewelers would do that without charging. That is a quick yes or no and a jeweler can tell you in 5 seconds.

I would want to nail down the maker. I could not find anything signed ag in lower case letters, wondering if maybe that second mark holds a clue.

Ag is the chemical symbol for silver, you get it quite often as a mark on Italian pieces.

I’m wondering if the other letters are Ro for Roma.

Q: I don't understand that large round studded ring on the back?
Is that an add on , for making the piece a pendant?

Yes, it is a pendant/brooch combination. Very popular during the mid-20th century, also in the 19th century.

I don't think it is studded though. It probably has profile added on the inside to prevent thinning due to rubbing by a chain. Difficult to see though.

I see it on both sides.......?

  13. Thank you all, I'm amazed at the knowledge displayed here. Very impressive. As per suggestion I added a few more pics taken outside in morning light. The bail on the back is slightly studded externally as well inside loop, other loop on the rear right side has different groove like pattern, but in frontal pic it is also studded. brooch7.jpg brooch8..jpg

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

To me, the letters inside the oval look like CR, and can't decipher what that mark is after the 'R'..........my image is "pixelating" as I tried to enlarge a bit too much.......

Gorgeous brooch. To me the styling and .925 stamp suggest late 1990's at the earliest.
