Help/thoughts on painting frame

I bought this today even though I couldn't find anything on the artist (La Zer?), but instead because it had such an unusual frame (and that didn't have 'Hecho en Mexico' on the back).
Can anyone tell me about this frame?
How old is it? What style (rococo?) and small parts that have come off made me think it's Masonite on wood?
Any thoughts on the painting or the artist's name would also be appreciated - was thinking the frame would look better without the painting?
    Thank you!

The painting's mediochre-the frames rather cool though (pre-Masonite).I'd guess the frame to be 1880's.With some effort you could restore it-you'd have to make replacement pieces for the missing parts.

Looks like the Western Wall or Wailing Wall in Israel.
That is all I can offer.

It's a Victorian gesso frame in rather worn condition. Chipped and missing gilding. Not contemporary to the painting. The painting is dated 1971 but the scene looks earlier (based on the men's clothing.) 1930s-1950s. Given this, I would think a copy of another painting or a photograph.

    Thank you everyone!
I knew the painting was of wailing wall by their clothing, it was the frame I was hoping was valuable, and what is was/made of.
    Happy Holidays!

My parents went there and my mother put a note for her health in the wall but it didn't work out.

Paintings of the Wall turn up here on a semi-regular basis. The frame looks like it was up in the attic for a few too many years.

When I was younger and ambitious I could restore a frame like that. Not sure if that negatively impacted the value but at least my frames looked good. :). I had done some clay sculpting and had a set of dental tools for fine work. I'd fill in a missing patch and sculpt it to match then paint it with gold paint (I didn't have the $$ for gold leaf). I don't recommend this unless you have a lot of time on your hands and a smidgeon of OCD.

Sounds like a fun puzzle to do though! Husband and I have contemplated getting some frame composite for just such a project but we haven't gotten any patients yet. :pics:
