Depends on where you are and how you are going to sell it. If online check completed listings for the site you are using. If in person I would check local auctions for completed listings.

    Excellent condition
    Poor size
    Women aren't into collecting watches
I doubt you can get much more than scrap value

Thanks Marie! I checked the completed listings for eBay similar sold for $200 for this grade/condition but random though, all over the place.

I was thinking starting around $150 with offers? I’ve never sold via auction and have no clue. Online I have 100% +FB and 5 stars for all categories on eBay and 4.9 on fbmp so that should help with online consumer confidence plus a video confirming it’s running. I offer 30 day free returns. Problem is I don’t have a lot of experience with vintage or antique. Appreciate the help and any ideas from more experienced sellers :)

I do not offer free returns! You can still take a return but there are a lot of problems that come with free returns and basically someone can use that item or try to flip it during that 30 days then send it back when they have buyer's remorse. With jewelry or clothes, someone could wear the item to a holiday function, then return it. You are not a rental company. Due to the age and fragility of the mechanisms, we never guarantee a watch/pocket watch is in working condition. We say something like "while the watch is in running/working condition (see video), we can not guarantee it will continue". Always ask more then you want with a buy it now and let the potential buyer do a best offer. If a similar sold for $200 then ask $225 or $200. Just my 02 cents from someone who has been selling on ebay since the good ole days (1998).

Items sold on eBay are subject to their Money Back Guarantee, whether the seller wants to participate or not. If the buyer claims the item was not received, or doesn't match the listing (ie: wrong item or item arrived damaged), eBay forces the seller into accepting the return, no matter what their stated return policy is. So, all a buyer has to do is damage the item and claim it arrived that way.
Rather than risk that happening (I know sellers who claim that has happened to them), I decided early on to take returns with no questions asked. Since 1999, and thousands and thousands of transactions, I've only had two returns. I sold mostly vintage clothing and accessories.

I used to sell mainly vintage clothing and accessories too and had no problem either but now that I have more costly items like antique and vintage jewelry I’m thinking that could be problem. I keep forgetting that we have to think like they do. Lol

One thing, if the buyer claims the item was not received (but tracking shows delivered) I believe that Ebay would side with the seller.

I have heard of items being returned damaged, rare, but happens. Really the buyer wanting a return only has to say "item not as described" and then something as vague as "the color looked different on my computer monitor". No need to damage item, Ebay makes it very easy to return. What I think sometimes happens (again rare) is that said buyer maybe tipped item over an created a crack or something, then tried to return.

All of this talk about returns has me re-thinking my policy --which currently is no returns. I do think it shows a certain confidence in your items to have the option for returns, but balancing that out with the ups and downs of accepting returns....hmmm. Good to review it and think about what is best. Thanks.

If you want to see why I offer no returns (unless the item is damaged or not represented accurately) then go to the facebook group Blocked Bidders on Ebay - which you should join if you sell a lot on eBay. The things I have read are astonishing and eBay really does NOT protect the seller even when you have been selling as long I have. It is also a great group just to see if a potential ebay buyer is going to be a problem before you accept their offer or bid. You might save yourself a lot of time and money. https://www.facebook.com/groups/492977294222302

Oh wow this is awesome. I will def check out. I used to sell a lot but stopped when I moved to DE. Slowly getting back into the groove. Had to move from clothing and accessories since thrift stores are screening so much it’s hard to keep a good inventory.

Find estate sales and go on the last day when things are 50% off. Don't lowball though unless it is the last day - typically the last hour is when you can really make deals. We usually have signed contract with our clients that we will follow our discount percentages and not give more unless we are in the last couple of hours and ONLY if the client or estate executors have checked a box that everything is to go. Sometimes family members want to go through what is left and make that determination and while we would like to make the extra money for our time, we respect our contracts and our clients wishes.
