Hi, sorry for the late response. I’m going to lay out the convo. You’ll notice that he never does state how much my design went off at during the last auction, only the generic value of a simple handle.

 

I had asked originally the value of my plate from the 3 photos that each of you saw and he (Alex) wrote back under a separate email:

Alex: $20-$50. (The chain of conversation going forward takes place on that email. )
Penny: Thank you for your quick response. Could you please tell me how much the tea cup and saucer from this set auctioned off with your company as it just went off for $661 last time I checked. Many Thanks!
Alex: it depends on the cup. The shape of the handle mostly. The ones with a bear handle is the most expensive, then the horse shaped handle... the c&s

Did you ask him about the age of the plate and the date of the mark or only for value?

We know his price is not an honest answer based on the plates that sold already in the links above. You should send him the links to the sold plates so he can't use the different shapes and handles as an excuse. I think this is one of those "hotel appraisers" looking to buy on the cheap. Based on other sales, I think your plate is worth at least 10 times his low estimate.

I agree with you, this is a bogus company if a person representing them refuses to respond to such an inquiry. I took his last sentences as a blow-off, did you? FYI, by any chance did you notice bear and horse handles? I will look again.

I have a question that is on another subject; - not sure if this is the area to ask it. I was told for those Elvis collectors out there, this would be last lucrative generation to sell their items to. I do not know how much weight to place upon that statement. I have a rather large Elvis collection that I asked my sis to store for me. Within it is a rather large scrap book that somebody made over the course of many a year which contains every single newspaper clipping up until the time that I obtained it. It also has within this book both used and not used tickets for several of his concerts. There are sealed boxed collector dolls I purchased) pins and some other items. Amongst those items are tape deck tapes (from the old radios) from Sun Studios I believe it was (that I have), however on a few the titles were spelled incorrectly. I’m thinking That must be a hot ticket item. Any ideas where to get this set appraised? I no longer live in NY to go to Sotherby’s free appraisals day. With photos of perhaps the tapes at least until I could obtain the rest in A few months would any of you be able to guess its worth and then where to sell the collection?

 

What is the size of this piece? Looks to me like it is a saucer (as mentioned by the dealer) rather than a plate, and a saucer without its cup usually has a comparatively lower value than a plate or the more often damaged or missing cup...

Hi, yes this is the saucer, however, there is no damage. It’s been kept safely. I do have a couple of small plates and something else that I will post a bit later. What was not answered within the email chain is what that saucer and cups’ pattern auctioned at their house last.

 

One of my great grandmothers had a rather large tea cup with the matching saucer collection. Each one was from a different pattern. That was gifted to me, however, it’s being stored until we have room for a proper display case. Now I’m very curious about her collection again which is quite beautiful. I would never sell, but just to see and share as they all have to be very old.

 

Not sure this dealer (do they even actually sell themselves?) deserves to be maligned because they politely answered (and rather quickly at that) regarding the saucer in question. Believe they gave you quite a bit of information - the saucer by itself has a fairly low value, the cup with a simple handle would be $100-150, worth more with a figural horse handle, and even more with a figural bear handle, obviously the cup & saucer together would sell for even more.

Was the set that sold for $661 in 2013 listed by the same person who has the website? They don't seem to understand what you're really asking (bit confusing to me too), and just to be clear, that old listing was for a bouillon cup and saucer (two handles)...

Her original post said plate, not saucer. Partially our fault for not asking the size and assuming it was a full size plate. We should know better. Penny, in the future, always include the size.

I agree with Cheryl, if it is just a saucer without a cup, it would be worth a lot less. You can't just divide the price of a previous auction that was a full set. Depending on how rare and desirable this pattern is, it could go higher than his estimate but, not as high as the pieces that were posted in the links above.

 

Thank you everyone! I figured that the set sells for much higher. My apologies for not making it clear that it was a saucer, I now know for the future. I did ask Alex how much the tea cup and saucer with that pattern went for at auction.

 

I think you have heard correctly. I watched an Antiques Roadshow episode last night, and it showed a signed album and belt that he had worn in a concert went from value in 2007 of $7500 to value in 2019 of $5000. I have also read that the Elvis collectibles (limited edition statues, etc) are very hard to sell. A scrapbook cut from newspapers probably doesn't have much value, but if you have anything that he personally owned or signed it would still do pretty well (such as the belt and signed album). The most interesting piece could be the reel to reel tapes (I assume they are reel to reel and not cassettes?) I wouldn't be in a rush to sell those without doing some real research.

Thanks Mill Cove Treasures! I’m afraid they are the cassettes with the labels misspelled on them. What do you think of the concert tickets?
