I got this "watch" at a pawn shop or flea market in Nairobi in the 80s. The story I've always heard that when the Maasai saw Westerners with their watches they made their own with beads.

I've never been able to confirm this, but I really like the "watch".

I saw a passing comment in a travelogue that mentioned those watches on the plane to Kenya. I spent a lot of time cruising small shops looking for one and no one had ever heard of them. On my last day I happened to be passing by a pawn shop/flea market in Nairobi and they had one.

Now you can find them all over Etsy. Maybe I started a trend. :)
