We've been seeing cameos at the flea market a lot. I saw two in an antique store that were mixed in with cheap costume jewelry. Even though the seller knew they were actually carved, they were priced ridiculously low. So, we've been getting new ones. The display cabinet she has is pretty full. So, she's just been bunching the new stuff together, and they'll eventually make their way somewhere. It won't be in that cabinet.
This is a photo of 4 new ones. The bottom one was mixed in with costume jewelry. The one above it was in a junk box at a flea market. The seller wanted $50 and said it tested to be 9 or 10k gold. It's nice, it wasn't worth $50 to me. My wife saw it. He told her $50, lowered it to $40 and threw in the one at the top for free.

This is all the stuff we've accumulated since she set up the full case.

I concur. Wellington & Nelson were popular themes, no doubt asked for by patriotic British tourists to Rome, not all with quality results.

    With the 'W's, no doubt.

The $40 one is my favorite of this lot. Even if not solid gold, a well carved wearable piece will sell for that or more. If solid gold, then it was under-priced imo. You might want to get her a few more boxes in the meantime so the ones outside the display case aren't all on top of each other. The metal might scratch the shell if they get jostled.

I've love to see them with a good light on so we can see the details. Dark photos are such a tease. :p

Thank you so much for sharing!! I've come across a few in museum databases that are incorrectly identified in material or carver but I'm too timid to approach. I've seen one or two that I can recall that were very clearly signed but not mentioned in their listings. I have gone through the Walter's online collection so I wonder if I saw the one you are referencing.

Welcome! I also came to this forum through this thread. :D

Here's a helpful post that @komokwa made about how to upload photos here, since they need to be resized and posted a certain way. Can't wait to see!

My wife will probably be able to fit all those into the display case they're sitting on, and make it look great. She was a textile designer/painter her entire life. She manages very well. But, we're retired. We go out all day, buy stuff, eat and relax. Putting stuff away is the hard part.

I've posted this before. But, they'll probably make their way here. Which looks great.

I won it at auction. It's great. But, I have no idea what it is made of. Someone here might have given me info. But, I'm not really sure.
Here's a few photos from the auction site.

[IMG]preview just told me it's a no go to link, I'll figure it out, please bare with me!

Yay!!! It took awhile and some tears found in my old old Photobucket.
Anyway, here's one of my ladies I placed I to a frame. I got the idea from my painted transferwear courting couples cameo's haha. She's a bit fuzzy. I have a mixed and odd selection of cameos myself. Tons of plastic ones that my other half uses for jewelry making. I was trying to make frames and whatnot for the ladies who just be free ranging it, they might die!

The area I'm at is resting about 40min from the worse highway in the US, and most deadly in Colorado. There are not many cameo lovers around, so I ended up starting to help out a few antique shops with a baseline inspection, real/fake/antique/vintage just basic things. But, by no means am I even close to an expert!!

I believe this is Flora? She's very well made and loved. I'd love to learn more about the subjects, that is more helpful than a Google search. I still need to add some minor touches on frame, but I'm happy with how it turned out.

-i WILL ramble on, I'm sorry, but I only work and come home. So it's general public, some coworkers, and a bf/hub that rarely shuts up, so I get a bit anxious and excited when talking to other people. It's been awhile since I've been in a forum setting, so please, bare with me

It sure looks like tortoise from here. The bracelet wasn't cheap when new. Couldn't sell it here now if listed properly, not that the goverment actually seems to care about antiques. If the animal's been dead 100+ years you can't punish the perps or do much about it.
