Hi everyone, and greetings from sunny South Africa.

I recently found the below telescope in a box from my late father.

Does anyone perhaps recognise what it is? Age? Manufacturer, etc? There are no makers marks that I can find.

Please see attached pics, and thank you in advance!

Please, check again for any marks.
that's a serious added eye piece ring....
    maybe an artillery spotter...?

Hi Komokwa, thank you for the replies. He was in the German army, but wouldn't have been old enough to make use of the scope. According to my mom, he bought it here in South Africa about 10 years ago.

I don't think it's naval, as it has "For Caval'y" and "For Infan'y" marked on the ring, which I presume to be "Cavalry & Infantry".

I've had another good look, no marks excepting the range markings on the ring. (I even had the wife have a look now, in case I missed something.

    No box unfortunately.

    Measurements: Closed: ~27cm Open: ~78cm

    Thanks again!

Looks like a 3 draw military scope, if it was found in South Africa it could be a relic from the Boer War.
Obviously English language and imperial measurements.
Check everywhere on the brass and see if you can see a Broad Arrow on it.
The Broad Arrow symbol identifies it as British Military and was used throughout the Commonwealth.

    Similar to this.

Thank you for the reply, Davey. I have had another look at the scope, and unfortunately, cannot find any other markings.

    There is a "patent" stamp:

And if I unscrew the eye piece, there is what looks to be VII marked on the shutter:

Other than that, no further markings.

Are these just scratches? Looks like a J and a (upside down) V

Well spotted. Here is a close up. Could be a J or maybe a 7? The smaller of your two circles is just a scratch.

And is it just an optical ilusion, or is there a number left of the larger screw? It looks like a 3 and an 8 to me.

    And no marks/name here either?

No numbers there, I had a closer look. Also no markings in that bit of missing paint.
