Featured Little spoon w gem?

Hi again. I have no idea what this is. I can't find similars online (but I'm not all that skilled at searching).

There's no marks and frankly the craftsmanship doesn't look great to me, but I don't know.

Is it silver? What's the stone-- glass?

Personally, would have serious doubt that your spoon is Austrian, can't see anything typical in the construction, engraving, or the stone setting that would point to an Austrian origin - would guess more likely Middle Eastern...


Might note that the site linked is filled with inaccuracies, though the owner has corrected some over the years, and he rarely shows any marks. My last attempt to share correct information regarding a fantasy description resulted in slight changes that had little to do with the verified facts I gave him, his email to me stating, "Sometimes I make assumptions which turn out to be false." If the similar spoon shown does actually bear an oddly specific 1922 Austrian mark, would question if it's perhaps an import mark.

Just on the 'European Gemstone Spoons' page he identifies a spoon as an "art nuevo" design created by Liberty, when it is a classic Scottish pebble design dating well before the Art Nouveau period, and a Brazilian flower basket spoon as European, an unidentified pomegranate motif spoon that looks Turkish to me (though Turkey is partially in Europe), as well as apparent ignorance of the German Jugendstil movement, and the inclusion of an American spoon because he feels it looks European.

This spoon, similar in its somewhat crude manufacture, the stem soldered to the bowl, and the open back and the setting of the stone. The seller thinks Persian (possible given the paisley motif), but they also oddly call it a caddy spoon, so who knows - closest I've found in poking around...

Very interesting Cheryl. Mine has no such SS stamp, or any stamp or mark, in fact. The stone, and the hole behind it (presumably to let light into it?) look very similar.

I had a go at mine with a Sunshine cloth, and while it did clean up, it doesn't have that dull shine I associate with sterling. Maybe 'dull' isn't the word for it, but there's a color that ss items seem to often have. Of course mine could be less than .925.
