I had this for sale last weekend at the antique show and another dealer told me it was likely jade--maybe jadeite. He said, if so, it was probably worth $100. He said it was likely a good luck talisman / object, without an explicit purpose. So I put it in my pocket to research.

Does all (or any) of that sound right? Does it look like jadeite to you?

Unfortunately I can't remember where I got it.

    Thank you for any comments!

Do a specific gravity test that might tell you, nephrite SG is usually between 2.90 and 3.04 Jadeite SG runs between 3.25 and 3.36

Also, It could be a child’s bangle, it may or may not be the same quality as this example but you can see the size comparison. IMG_2024-11-21-030718.png

The second example and maybe the first too I’d be very suspicious of the color and clarity of the bangle for $99 has to be either treated or some other stone altogether.

Of course it is next to impossible to identify jadeite from photographs but these look a lot like Dushan Jade, and because of the price I would be suspicious they could be made from stone much less expensive than Jadeite?

    I agree.
You're right Dushan 'jade' is less expensive, it is not jade in the non-Chinese sense.

It seems a little crazy to us but the jade is considered protection and in an accident the jade will break protecting the person wearing it… so I’ve been told.

I have seen Chinese babies with jade bangles. As Desert said, it is considered protection. Jade is like a piece of heaven, so it is similar to pinning a religious pendant on a child's clothes.

No you wouldn’t want that… jadeite because of its structure I could be wrong but I don’t think you get shards and splinters exactly but more of a clean break from the bangle. I had friends comment they have been protected by their bangle and it broke into two pieces.
