Does anyone recognize this beautiful bookcase or have any ideas on year/maker? It came with a house we just purchased from a 80 year old woman. She said it was her father’s and came over from Germany with him on a ship. But that is all I know! I’d love to find out more about its worth, style, craftsmanship etc. It is extremely heavy and appears to be one piece with the top trim being removable… any ideas?

I’d call it German Renaissance Revival ca. 1890s, although I’ve seen dates up to the 1920s. Gorgeous piece. I see asking prices north of $3K, although I don’t know if they’re getting it. I’d hold onto it in any case!

Are we sure thats not a wardrobe ? Maybe the glass replaced a mirror . It looks too awkward to get in and out of for books. Does the glass open ? Can we see behind the doors ?

Looks like a dining room cabinet, not a bookcase, to me. Room for china display as well as storage. JMHO!

It would help to see the inside. Definitely not for clothes. It looks like the enclosed sides are for dishes and things that look messy; the glass center was for pretties.
