    hi folks

something i found today in a chazza. i get the feeling its more of a handmade type one than a branded one, i'm presuming its for a woman by the look/size of it (MASSIVE)

was wondering where you think it was made, or is it just a womans high street fashion type thing

    can't find similar

    any help/info appreciated

Woman's fashion item probably. I'd bet on someplace like Peru, or wherever those lizards live and leather is a common item. Brazil maybe? The geckoes have gone everywhere.

Very nice, charlie. I probably would have picked it up too.
    Thritto.
    The Netherlands?:angelic::joyful:
We have several species of lizards and leather is common. I used to work with locally sourced leather and non-local beads (Bohemian).

the work on it is astonishing especially given how thin the middle parts are

    You did very well!!!
Unfortunately, but it is a beautiful Canton export fan ca 1815-25. The detail on those is exquisite. I have two myself, and had to re-ribbon one, which was very easy. The most difficult part was getting the right ribbon, those ribbons were thinner than today's ribbons.
If it has any broken parts, just take those out. As long as it is only one or two no one will know the difference. You can also sell it for parts, collectors are always looking for parts.

Is the lovely 'bamboo' mirror silver? Any marks, Chinese maybe?:wideyed::hungry:

Absolutely. It took months to make one fan, sometimes up to a year.

i had to buy it just to marvel at it :woot:

i'm not sure about the mirror, its old and beveled glass, thought possible japanese antimony
its polished up but not as good as i'd imagine silver should, no marks

For a bleeding tenner? Sheesh; the travel grooming stuff was worth that much. I doubt the hand mirror is real silver, but it'll do its job just fine. The fans..they had no clue what they had. None.

What is a 'chazza'? It looks from the photos that the belt has some nice age.

A quick Google makes me think it's an Irishism that made its way east a bit.
