Basket 3 from the collection

    It looks to be a slightly older version of these baskets, made in northern Uganda, based on traditional winnowing baskets -

    This example in the British Museum may show the older form. Although the center start is not shown in the catalog photos, the style of the rim, and the description of it as twined "cane" is comparable. According to the catalog data, "the original registration Slips are printed with 'Uganda Protectorate', which at the time of collection encompassed parts of both modern Kenya and Uganda", acquired in 1901 -

    Unfortunately, no specific ethnic group is identified as the makers in either source.

    Thank you! My dad loved Uganda, the people there, and spent a lot of time traveling there. It would make sense that my parents have a basket from there.
