Puzzled about Heavy Open Glass Piece

Found in a box in the garage. 8" tall, weighs in at 3-1/2 lbs, see the thick walls! Open both ends, so it's not a vase which was my first thought, and based on the very smooth bottom opening, not cut from a vase either.

Deep cut design, pings nicely, no mold marks. Just too heavy for a lamp shade -- 1-1/8" base opening. Unless a special use for a special piece. Any ideas?

Maybe a candle shield? It looks like it would really sparkle with light coming through it.

If it's that heavy, could it be crystal?

Perhaps, nice ping to it (can you tell I don't do glass? )

Just wondering how it would work from a practical standpoint. Nothing to hold the end of the candle other than the opening, and too heavy and tall not to topple if it was placed on top of a candle holder unless it was very very low and wide.

It could have been used with a wall sconce, or maybe a heavy, weighted metal base, like this...

LOL! Yes indeed -- and best of it all? I seem to think I have the bottom piece too but didn't put the two together. That's what happens when you don't shop in real stores -- don't recognize lots of these decorative things. Thanks cluttered, I now have a complete one for the yard sale instead of a mystery piece on my shelf.....
