something i bought in my friends clearance shop along with the cane, paid a tenner but as you can probably tell i'm a sucker for opaline blue glass

it aint in no means perfect condition, i removed the top glass disc as it was all smashed in and falling to bits

the metal was pure black and not easy at all to clean off, but needs to cleaned more and polished but i have to be carefull not the break the hinge

gotta be antique i would think, theres a little building picture inside that was under the glass disc

i'm tempted to bond a little opaline brooch (same period i think) to the top as a solution

    any thoughts or info appreciated

    Cool little piece, Ches :)

If you can channel your inner kyra, maybe you can fix the cap and find a little scene to put in as a replacement.

Here's how the cap is supposed to look:

interesting, thanks buddy, looks like the metal must be a gilded something or tother, so aint gonna polish up, and thought it was brass.

finding a correct size glass disk isn't gotta be easy, but doesn't necessarily have to be glass i guess, just transparent

I bet that’s French ormolu and glass, even though the scene is Greek.

Have a hunt for a watch glass, that would do it. How big a stopper do you need?

Gorgeous little bottle, charlie. Love the colour.:)
People who repair old watches usually have them in different sizes. No need to go to a professional, there are plenty of old watch enthusiasts.

You might try soaking the metal parts in white vinegar. I have found that some of the gold-plated / brass hardware on my bottles have that black gunky stuff on them. I dunk them in vinegar for a few minutes at a time. The black gunk wipes away gradually, and it does not seem to harm the metal. When I am happy with the results, I make sure to spray it down with water just to get rid of any vinegar left on the surface or in cracks.

This is the eBay US but I am sure you'll be able to find the same on your side of the pond.

This bottle was likely a set of two or three, as @Debora showed above. As you can see by the links below, these bottles are mostly associated with a "grand tour," hence the scenes depicted on the cap. They came in all manner of enclosures. Make sure you check the third link for the grandest option.:happy:

marvelous help and info thanks Peg. will try that with the white vinegar as i really want to try to get it to pop against the blue glass, and looks like some examples have polished up well

might try and go the full hog with this one just to see if i can

like i said before i gotta go a little careful as i dont want the hinge to break off (though does feels quite sturdy, and has lasted this long ;))
