I just got this heavily tarnished box from a clearance.

It was lined with a red fabric with cotton stuffing underneath that had perished, I pulled it out as it was a mess and disintegrating.
The fabric was glued to a removable wooden base that had lead strips glued to it to add weight.

The lid only has the Sterling mark and date letter O

The base has #1 S&Co - Birmingham mark -Sterling mark - and date letter O.

It measures 6 inches width, 4 inches depth and 2 inches high.

There is a slight split in the lid at the back near the hinge.

I intend to polish it and perform some type of restoration and keep it.

I read the marks as Birmingham 1913 Sydney & Co , do you agree.

The poor thing needs help; the insides probably looked like Buzz got at them.

Look at me now, I got help.

It took an hour of silver cream and ammonia last night, work in progress.

It looks much happier now. Always good to see items looking the way they were meant to look.:)

Lead weights. That’s something to consider going forward when buying silver desk/dresser boxes at auctions and sales.

Very swank! Will you be rebuilding the interior?

Eventually, cotton wool as padding and either red or black satin material.
