something i picked up at local auction on monday

    https://www.easyliveauction.com/cat...a6646f/homewares-and-interiors-sale-lot-760a/

had to go to A&E on monday as well with jaw problems, and had to pick this up on the way before as it was the last day to pick up (all on the bus)

to my horror it is MASSIVE so had to carry it up to A&E and have it with me while waiting

along with a large cold cast bronze of gilbert and sullivan

they all loved it (light relief i guess), and at one point had 7 nurses crowding round :happy:

this seems to be the artist (sold a painting for ten grand :woot:)

    https://www.sloughobserver.co.uk/ne...e-saves-datchet-based-artist-facing-disaster/

but also found this (sold a painting for £30 :()

    https://www.rosss.ie/lot-details/julian-bettney/the-river-thames-early-one-morning-eton/184270/

    any thoughts appreciated

That is a hilarious story. :hilarious: I hope they saw you're a man of culture and refinement. :joyful:

Bettney seems to do a wider range of styles now, but I can see this fitting into his style evolution based on some of his portraits.

His FB also highlights him trying to sell land in Ibeza and show ufo videos, plus selling costume jewelry on his social media sooo..... Maybe not the most professional. :greyalien:

I think the 10k was a one time thing for him and his other pieces probably sell for much less.

Hyper realistic for The Palms above, very impressionistic Monet style for the Eton River Thames. A painter who just goes with how he feels like painting on the day. Agree with Mirana the £10k was one off, a friend helping him out.

much less i think Mirana, i think it might have been a pity thing... if true ;)

I agree with @evelyb30! He knew what he was doing when he painted this nude... Trying to attract someone who likes a chest in the breeze. :playful:

yeah i don't think the one on picclick is a painting, certainly not by this artist, sometimes the pics get mixed up from something else

komokwa The Truth is out there...!

the female nude is an art mainstay.... in painting , carving , sculpting , casting, jewelry, and of course... bomber nose art..

    even in an A&E :)

i oddly quite like hospitals (i don't enjoy what takes you there)

but find them fascinating places, think i would have enjoyed a career in that field in some form or another

there was an old guy brought in by his daughter who i was talking with who had just fallen down some concrete steps and landed on his head

his daughter mentioned that only 4 weeks previously he had died on the operating table and been resuscitated

2 weeks before that his wife had just died from dementia

he had told his daughter that he was holding on because he didn't want her to loose both her parents at the same time

    Wow. Raw human drama there.

Weird but true: in the ancient past, before Sept. 11, 2001, my wife and I would sometimes go to the airports to watch the human drama of farewells and reunions of strangers.

i imagine i'd like that too pott, but never been to an airport in my life. Im a bit like that at train stations, suppose its a bit like going to a human zoo.
    i'm definitely a people watcher
    fascinating creatures they are :playful:;)

So you think that was intentional by the artist? Maybe he used a model? I think it’s makes the whole thing a least a bit more interesting and more human
