Here's an old whistle-it seems to be made of horn or bone, there's a metal rod that allows a valve to pivot,on top of the valve sits (floats) a pea -sized ball (perhaps to weight down/close the valve). The piece is 2 1/2" long by 3/4" across.
Any help re date & usage would be very welcome-thanks !

Pot-I'll dunk it in a bit of alcohol and give er a blow ! I've been intrigued by whistles, especially old ones ever since reading M.R. James singular 1904 ghost story-"Oh, Whistle, and I'll Come to You, My Lad".
...never know what'll show up on your doorstep ?

Bone whistles have been made since Neolithic times, so its anyone's guess.

Dog whistles usually cannot be heard by humans.
