American studio pottery

I need help indentifying the artists who made these studio pottery vases that came from a collection. One has a partial sticker with california on it. Sadly one signature is allmost unreadeble.

 

....old. Arnold Friedman? There's only a NY painter I can find. The signature seems to start with a J. There's a Jeremy Kalin you could ask, but his current output and signature are very different.

Oak Grove Dr., Los Angeles 41...shouldn't be too hard to find, with that much of a name. The 41 is a postal Zone...which were replaced by Zip-Codes in July 1963.

Dunno about that...if Friedman made it, perhaps...but folks use old address labels alla time.
My thought was to get Postal Zone 41 converted to a Los Angeles Zip-Code (your local Postmaster should be able to assist) to determine, if possible, whether the address is or ever was the site of a pottery studio. A bit o' work, but might yield worthwhile information. Good Luck!

I think he's mentioned in the video.

If you type "friedman" in the search box of the video page, you get 2 results, and if you click on them, you get a text on the left side with 'play segment'. If you click on that, it should take you to the segment of the video where that Gerald Friedman is mentioned.

But I have no idea if this Friedman has any link to yours. Not seeing his name in the signature. As Mirana mentioned, it seems to be starting with a J (followed by A M and 2 more letters?)

 

No, "...old" as in the letters I could maybe make out on the label. That said, this is a vintage looking pottery imo.

The J could also be a V. In any case not seeing 'Gerald' (or 'Arnold') or 'Friedman' in the signature, so the label could indeed be from the retailer (or a previous owner).
