Thrift find - very old Louis Vuitton backpack or a copy?

I found this at my friend's thrift store today. I saw it as they were unpacking a truck of donations & told my friend - the manager - if he thought it was real?
He looked it over closely & then told me "I think it might be"
When I asked if the brass rivets would tarnish in a Vuitton bag, and he told me "maybe - it's obviously very old"
Finally when I asked him how much? He said $40.
I asked 'what about $25'? He replied "what about $75?"
So I paid him $40 for it.
Can anyone tell if it's is a old, vintage Louis Vuitton backpack? Isn't there a way to tell by the leather or the stitching?
If it is real, any idea how old it is?
Anther picker friend of mine told me about a Louis Vuitton shop near me that would tell me if it's real, and clean it - for free!
So I'm going to take it there Monday, but I'm hoping someone here can tell me sooner.
    Thank you!

If I remember it right, I once read that original LVs don't have cut-off simbols like these

Bad memory... Apparently only the LV-logo isn't cut off.

"Note that if the logo is hidden or cut off any where it is likely a knockoff. The other designs on a Louis Vuitton bag might be cut off at some places, but the LV logo will not be cut off on an authentic bag"

You remembered something wasn't supposed to be cut off, so that's an achievement :)

I'm no LV expert but the pattern matching at the top and bottom of the front pouch is not something fakers usually pay attention to. Keeping my fingers crossed for you!

I had that backpack, one of the things I will tell you other than the obvious cut off the stitching color is funky, and the straps. I bought that one for traveling. Now look at the back straps & the holes - they easily enlarged on mine. Yours look in pretty good condition, considering the shape the rest of it is in. I returned mine because of the holes easily stretching.

If it’s a fake, it’s a very good one. That’s excellent stitching and what looks like decent leather too.

I wonder if it had been repaired by a cobbler?

    Any date tag?

Allegedly, LV do not authenticate bags (according to this blog post which is quite detailed but also trying to sell you authentication at the end sooo ALLEGEDLY ;)). I looked it up because many brands will not authenticate items at all unless it's a brand that utilizes serial numbers.

You could maybe get around it by inquiring about a repair or cleaning service (or the emboss service mentioned on the blog) and seeing if you are refused. I would not mention I got the item second hand lol.
