    Hi folks

found this painting this week in a charity shop. Was only a fiver and only wanted it really for the frame, for a chinese panel painting.

i thought it a tad tacky, touristy, but its not that bad actually

    presuming not very old 80's?

think on a thick resin type

seems quite alot online in varying qualities, some state persian, some indian and some iranian

    signed on front and back

any help with age or original would be most helpful

gotta find a frame for this one now though

    Persian/Iranian.
Persia is the Greek name for Iran, Iran is the Iranian name.
Some of these sell for good money, especially in the original frame with Iranian style mat.;)

awesome, thanks Aj. thats good news if the frame wasn't original to the piece, and seems to fit the chinese one better, so will look out for a more traditional one ;)

Chinese one could be from a set of Four Beauties/Seasons.

The frame and mat look better on the Iranian piece imo.
It is too overbearing for the Chinese beauty, especially that strong gold tone of the mat next to the subtle background colour.

THe Iranian one belongs in there. The Chinese lady probably had a dark brown, dark green etc frame originally.

The something plasticy is probably ivorine, which can go back to the end of the nineteenth century, though the Persian examples seem to be considerably later (search "ivorine persian painting").
