      Reminds me of an 1880's Victorian commode, like those of J.L. Mott design. Though it's beautifully carved. Mott's designs were heavy wood with a lifted cover. That has a center cover which reminds me of my great aunts one she had in the cabins and house before they installed her modern-day bathroom. But, that's just a guess. Upscale hotels did use fancier wooden accommodations for their patrons. The porcelain or enamel commode would fit inside the wooden enclosure.
