Featured 1856 -Pastel

Hi all,please help me decipher the signature (if possible) The date looks 1855 or 1856 to me? I bought this on auction and it was listed as being ‘unsigned’. I only later discovered the signature on closer inspection (it’s signed about 26cm up from the corner on the left handside) The frame size is 81cm x 68cm. It’s framed behind glass .Thank you for any comments

The frame appears to be new-ish, 1970s maybe. No reason why you can't open it up and see if any information inside.

Thanks Debora. Yes,I was considering that. It’s been hanging on the wall for a few months now. Do you also think this is well executed?

 

A gifted amateur I'd say. I'm not terribly fond of this type of genre painting.

Thanks. Appreciate the comment. I was thinking it’s rather ‘good’ (in my limited art knowledge) and I also like the face and eyes. I was obviously happy to ‘discover’ the signature and date.
