I grabbed these at a recent estate sale. Wealthy folks with nice things and a cool collection. Wondering if the design is specific to a specific place? There were two identical pieces. Approximately 5’x6’ I think. Yellow, black, and brown. Not sure what their purpose would be? They’d make nice wall hangings but maybe they were made for a particular use? I’d imagine the owners were well travelled so they could have come from just about anywhere. They had a pretty large collection of African art so that may be a logical origin. Sorry I can't help, other than to say it's a printed fabric, not a tapestry.
    Interesting!

Fair point and technically correct of course. I meant it in the loose modern sense. It’s kind of a general term used by many for any fabric wall hanging these days.

Looks like a pareo. Printed cotton?

I didn’t know what a Pareo was, but that makes sense. It does seem to be printed. The colors look pretty natural but it could just be commercial dyes. I didn’t think I had anything special, was more just wondering if the design pointed to a specific place or if it was just generically pleasant.

    Is there a dislike button!?!?

J/k I’m sure the ventilation was lovely. Too bad it’s not socially acceptable. I’d probably rock one if it were.

LOL, I wasn't aware of quite such a loose usage of the term tapestry. Perhaps it's a regional thing.

It seems the loose usage is not regional but spread wide and far. If you google the word “tapestry” and look at image results the first dozen(s) results are all modern fabrics meant for wall hanging. I wondered if you were correct, that’s why I did a search. I think at least since the 60’s if you were a hippie/college kid with hippie tendencies you weren’t worth your salt if you didn’t have a large tie dye or vaguely ethnic looking “tapestry” hanging from the wall. Mine was a gigantic blue and purple tie dye with an Alice in Wonderland caterpillar in the center I believe. I lived on the beach one summer when I was 19 or so. The entire front wall of my bedroom was a sliding glass door looking out to the ocean. My groovy tapestry covered the entire thing so that I could sleep in without being cooked by the sun. I could then pull it to the side when I got up.

I however just have two lousy bedsheets it turns out. The unsuspecting hippies are so high they will never know the difference. I may pull the wool right over their eyes with my technically incorrect tapestry terminology. I’ve stuck to that mindset more than most for most of my life. This is one step further than I’m willing to go. Just not brave enough I suppose. My undercarriage will have to suffer the dog days as is.

My first thought upon handling these was that they would make a really nice lightweight blanket/sheet type thing. Then I thought how silly it would be to use a wall hanging as a sheet. Look who’s silly now! Thanks!
