Thoughts...like what ? Some guy wrote a poem inside about escaping the sight of others sufferings... What more is there?
what bothers me is the poem is done in blue ink and the signed in black do you think it could be a friend and adviser to gerard
Lloyd - how did you find that the poem was written in 1899. I tried Googling some of the lines and got no where. Who wrote it?
This particular edition was published in the 1960's. https://www.etsy.com/listing/255232659/gerard-manley-hopkins-poetry-book-the
blue and black fountain ink under magnification the date is may 20/99 and i have had the book since before 1999
the book itself is trash was hoping for a good poet lol oh well, would have been easier if it was in ballpoint .not one indentation not even on the other side of the page leads me to beleive they used a fountain pen and the could have i had one in the 60s
I wish I could have found the lines on Google for you, but no go. (Frankly, it's not even that good a poem IMHO, but that's neither here nor there.)
I tried Googling some of the lines and got no where also, don't know who wrote it was hoping you /s would
This book was first published in 1953. Number D15 http://www.penguinfirsteditions.com/index.php?cat=mainD
yes d15 but the poem was what i found interesting in finding out about. and it's nothing anyone recognises so it's a bust . i could be off a year or 2 from when i bought it and it might just be a new (very dark ) poet
